Scratch Spice cake
I found making this cake to be really easy and satisfying. It's
kind of amazing to make a cake with no cake mix. It smells great when
cooking and tastes great too. It takes a lot of ingredients but once
you have them you can make lots of cakes.
Dry ingredients
1 1/2 cup all-purpouse flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup of chopped walnuts (optional - I never tried this)
Wet ingredients
6 tablespoons of vegetable oil
1 cup of water
1 tablespoon of vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 350. Put all the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and
stir well. Add the wet ingredients and stir until smooth. Pour into an
8x8 inch well
greased (and, what the heck, floured) baking pan. Bake 35-45 minutes or
until a toothpick comes out clean.
It really doesn't need frosting but some white frosting will help keep
the cake fresh.
