October 28 - Friday

Today is our optional tour of Alexandria.

A long but enjoyable ride down to Alexandria. Lots to look at.

We had a brief bathroom stop. I bought some tissues.

We noticed upscale housing developments. Here's Deb with the security guy. We passed through a toll booth.

Finally Alexandria. We went to the "Alexandria National Museum". Interesting stuff here. The museum is divided into three sections - Ancient, Coptic and the Muslim world. We spent most of our time in the Ancient section. We were turned loose for a few minutes on our own to visit the other two sections.

The kids were friendly and wanted to practice their English. They have yellow cabs here.

We visited what appeared to be a reconstructed Roman amphitheater. There are baths here under restoration. There was a girl giving a tour in English wearing her total middle east outfit.

The bus pushed its way through a crowded market area. It's Friday. Groups of people were on their rugs praying. I felt bad taking pictures of people praying - I tend to think of prayer as a private thing.
Extras

We saw many things including sexy women's clothes. I guess they don't always wear just their robes around the house. Everyone was friendly and waving. They know Americans are friendly and they need our money.

Perhaps this drive through the market was the highlight of the trip to Alexandria.

We went for lunch at a seafood place. Apparently it's also a seafood market. We had a very nice leisurely lunch - no beer.

We went out to the Mediterranean. I stayed on the bus rather then get run over by vendors. Deb took the brief tour. Movie.
Quite a large busy harbor here. Looks like pleasure boats and fishing boats. There is a citidal here guarding the harbor.

We stopped by the modern library here in commemoration of the Great Library of Alexandria. How sad that was lost to mankind. Movie.

Back on the bus. One more bathroom stop. Then home.

OMG the party has been going on. A massive wedding with 500 guests. It was going strong(MOVIE). I was surprised that there was a "cover" band playing American/Western songs with only a few Arabic sounds.

Jeez! I took a spill into the pool. Luckily I wasn't hurt. My camera bounced. I also bounced right up. I have a scrape on my leg. Luckily I didn't get badly injured. Yikes! I was looking at all the party action including a large screen showing the dancers and people.
